For some reason I’m exhausted today, even though I’ve hardly done anything. I went to the bank, walked across to the grocery store (next to the bank), then came home. Yesterday I felt well enough to go for a long walk — today I made it as far as the duck pond on the other side of the apartment complex and had to go back. Also I’m peeing a lot (yes, TMI) and also am very thirsty — I woke up about every hour last night to pee, or so it seemed, and today my allergies are also bothering me. And I have a scratchy throat. So I think I’m coming down with something. I did make the mistake of going to Walmart a few days ago because it’s cheaper, and my cashier was guzzling cough medicine like it was soda. I’ll bet you she gave me her virus.
So I’m doing a load of laundry, because I’m out of clean underwear. Which brings me to my pet peeve: why is a washer/dryer for clothes in one’s own apartment an alternative that not all apartment complexes offer, yet hardly any apartment complex dares offer units without a dishwasher? Dishes can be washed by hand, but washing all your clothes by hand is a pain in the ass, not to mention where do you dry them? In the bathroom so they can mold and mildew? What about sheets?
And that being said, why do we have to put money in the laundry machines here? It’s not like this place has washer-dryer hookups for everyone. (This complex only offers them in the large two-bedrooms.) You’d think that the cost of the washers in the laundry rooms would be included in the rent. They should offer a washer and dryer unit as an option to the dishwasher. I’d gladly wash my dishes in the sink just to be able to wash my clothes in my apartment. I sure do miss having my own washing machine, grumble…
Later: gah, feeling worse — itchy, stuffy, fevery. I took Tylenol and prepared one of my cold remedy suppers: chicken ramen noodle soup with onion, garlic, hot red pepper flakes, sliced bell pepper, and sliced grape tomatoes thrown in. Vitamin C city. And I ate an apple and an orange. So at least I still have my appetite. This better be gone by Thursday — I’ve been invited to a friend’s house for Thanksgiving eats.
PS: thanks to those of you who have donated to my Paypal and Amazon tip jar in the past couple of days. This is a lean week, so the money is really helping.

Uh oh!
Enjoy the Big World. Punch Mickey in the jaw for me. (Okay, okay, even though he’s probably being played by a gay college student who voted for Obama, don’t punch him. It’ll freak out the kids.)
Trufax: I haven’t been to Disney World since 1992. I moved up here in 1999. Well, I’ve been to Downtown Disney, but that doesn’t count.

PS: I’d offer to meet you, but I have the cold… you don’t want to take a Florida bug back home with you. Trust me.
Argh, I’m getting the one stuffy nostril… I hate having a cold. π

If They get back to you on the dishwasher versus no/pay laundry machines question, let us know; I’ve wondered the same thing: it sure isn’t because the dishwashers are significantly or at all cheaper than washer/dryer units. Nor can they really make much profit from those quarters; maybe in some landlordish imaginative world, perhaps.

I wonder if it’s the fire hazard. Clothes dryers are actually a serious hazard, unlike dishwashers, and it would be silly to have just a clothes washer.

Well, they do provide dryer as well as washer hookups in many apartments — I am thinking a better design of the ducts that lead from the dryers (enabling people to be able to clean them out easier) might help. As for providing only washers — well, I can remember when people didn’t used to have dryers; they hung their clothes on a line. But I guess those aren’t considered aesthetically pleasing any more. (Also the clothing doesn’t get nice and soft hanging there on the line; and then you have to iron them; and then there is the whole labor-intensive, time-consuming thing about hanging each piece of wash on the clothesline — I hated doing it; and then there is the question of weather, you can’t just wash something and go.)
Anyway, they do make washer-dryer combos that apparently don’t need venting. Here’s one. I think that units like those are what they use in a lot of apartments in Europe and Asia, places where people are more accustomed to having to find space-saving solutions to cramped living. I think my main problem with apartment conditions in the US is that apartments here are so inefficient.

Heck, I own a house, and I have no dishwasher, but (of course) a washer and dryer.
(The downside to Euro/Asian-style washer/drier combos is that you can only wash and dry, like, a handful of things at once. A million little batches – better than nothing, but Not The American Way.)

The last apartment I was in where I could install a washer and dryer I had to rent one of the stacked combos. It was pretty small — I couldn’t do too much at once or the basket would start banging on the spin cycle. It especially hated jeans.

I’m worried about you. The peeing and lethargy and thirst are all classic signs of diabetes. I know you’ve been trying to eat better, and ramen noodles are a poor girl’s best friend, but please try and get a glucose test ASAP.

Good call, nightwitch, I’d thought the same thing but forgot to mention it at the time…

I did think about that. I do need a checkup. The last time I was tested all my levels were normal, though. Then again, I didn’t have a strict glucose test done.
However, since I’ve gotten the cold, my peeing rate has gone back to normal, even though I’ve been drinking tons of caffeine (coke, tea) and been taking decongestants. I wonder if my body wasn’t trying to get rid of toxins. But I wouldn’t be surprised if I wasn’t going diabetic as I’m also overweight.
