Exhausted

Sorry folks, but I have just been beat. This ear thing is really getting me down — I am starting to think that I have an ear infection, not just an ear stuffed with wax. It’s possible — ear infections were my childhood scourge, and I have memories of hot oil being poured in my ear, having to lie down with my ear on a heating pad, feeling like someone was stabbing me in the ear with a skewer, etc… I don’t have any pain, but I feel more tired than I should. Or is that the cold medicine I’ve been taking?

Also, I decided to start going through all my stuff to separate what I’m going to get rid of, hopefully by selling it, and now I am surrounded by piles of books, boxes of Pampered Chef items (I so want to get rid of that junk), typewriters — I am only keeping the smallest portable, the rest of the collection is being sold. (I belong to a typewriter collection email list so I am sure I will find buyers.) The worst are the books: I have decided to get rid of all but a few very essential volumes. Most of what I have are scifi and fantasy paperbacks that frankly it’s time I let go of (yes, bad sentence construction there, I don’t care). I’ve read most of them a thousand times anyway. But when I move up north I want to move with practically nothing, just the cats, some clothes, a few household essentials. Nothing I own is irreplaceable except for some jewelry (and none of that is valuable). But dang, right now I wish a fairy would sweep down and whisk all this stuff away and leave a bag of gold behind.

Okay, I’m going to try and eat something and see if that makes me feel better. At least my appetite, which had almost vanished, came back.

Heh, extra stuff to sell! Been there, done that, WAY too many times.

If you go eBay, you might have a better shot at selling the stuff. You’d be surprised what people will buy, but you might not make a huge amount of cash. Just more than you have now.

I really should set up my Ebay store. I’m just too lazy. I have sold things on Craigslist before, but I didn’t get a lot of money. Then again, I wasn’t expecting to.

This time, though, I have a lot of stuff instead of just a few pieces. And despite throwing stuff away with every move. I’m basically planning on getting rid of most of my life! Ah, freedom… Of course, months later I’ll be sitting there thinking “why the hell did I get rid of (that)? I could have used it!” Such is life.

There are a lot of home remedies for an earache. One is a few drops of vinegar/rubbing alcohol mixed 1:1. In fact, doctors sometimes prescribe Domeboro Otic, and it’s basically vinegar.

However, standard disclaimers apply: use at your own risk, I’m not a doctor, etc.

I have a house full of crap.

I can’t bear to let it go.

    Especially the books.
    And…

Good luck with the ear thingy. I’ve been almost deaf in one ear for years, haven’t got my act together to go to a specialist, GP said I’d probably need grommets. You need someone to take you to the surgery for that.

You really don’t need an eBay store; I have an eBay account, which I use occasionally to sell odds and ends that fall my way, but I decide I don’t need. My brother used to have a store, but gave that up and went back to an account.

The real pain is typing in a description, uploading a photo, and then setting the price so that you get bidders but not burned.

I once sold a box of wall transformers (the sort one uses for appliances and electronic doohickeys), and it went pretty quick, and for a price that rather astonished me. Not that much, but enough to make the effort worth the return.

I can bear to let go of almost everything but the books. But I have to get rid of some of the books… I can’t face moving with boxes and boxes of books again, especially cross country.

That’s what’s stopping me, so far. My current excuse is my camera needs a new battery. Yeah.

Edited to add: at least I got the typewriters out of the closet, where they’d been taking up space. Now that they are cluttering up my apartment floor, maybe I’ll eventually get on to selling them.

Oddly enough, my brother did much the same thing you did, Andrea, and for the same reasons. He did his selling on eBay, and even sold a lot of his books.

Maybe you can pick up a new camera battery on eBay? πŸ˜€

That would be more expensive than getting one at Walgreen’s. (Shipping & handling would cost as much I’ll bet!) I just have to get off my bum and go to the store.
