Actually I may be going to bed soon. I’m tired. My laptop, which was working fine a couple of days ago, has decided to start acting weird again, so I’m looking forward to that repair bill because I can’t afford to buy another one right now. So I guess I won’t be selling this desktop system any time soon. (What I really want to do is to sell it and buy a new laptop, but my budget won’t extend to such things right now.)
Anyway, Sarah Palin is debating Joe Biden in my future home, St. Louis. Apparently she is doing well — I’m not watching, because Biden gives me the pip, and also debates irritate me. Also I’m in a bad mood from my laptop not working. On a better note, the maintenance guy came and fixed my a/c (basically it was out of freon so it was using water to cool things down and the coils froze). So I’ve got that going for me.

Just so you know, AH. Sometimes summers can be a real bitch around here. Being situated at the confluence of two really big rivers tends to jack up the humidity some. Anyway, e-mail me when you’re due in and I’ll try to get Charles Austin and the real Juan Gato together for a Blogbash. And if they’re busy, dinner and the first few rounds are on me.

Nothing can faze me after growing up in Miami without air-conditioning (my father, who just may have been one of the Lizard People that Richard Icke guy’s always ranting about, took out our window units when I was ten or so — he said they were making us sick. I think he just had a busted thyroid).
I will definitely let you know when I’m up there!

This blogger/author is from Columbia, MO (center of the state) and she wound up (like me) in KC rather than St. Louis. The two towns are very similar, but like Houston and Dallas always seem to be in competition. Don’t pay that no mind, just noting it so you won’t be shocked. I thought you might enjoy some of her stuff.

Welcome to the midwest. You’ll find we argue over BBQ, football and pronunciation (Versailles, MO, for instance is pronounced Verr-sigh elsewhere, but we call it Verr-sales and we won’t change. We’re hard headed.)
Local author Daniel Woodrell writes about Missouri folk and has a good ear. If your library has any of his stuff, you can ‘ease into it’ while you plan your advance to the middle. Pay no attention to his politics. He went to KU, God help him. They made one of his books into a movie ‘Woe to Live On’ became ‘Ride with the Devil’. Pretty good.

St. Louis has Trader Joe’s…so you’ve got that going for you. And frozen custards, and good eats on The Hill. We don’t have an ocean or big mountains around here, but we do just fine. Y’all come.
