Looking over the parapets

Hi kids! Man, I don’t know what happened to me this weekend, but I’ve just been exhausted — Friday night I went to bed at something like 7:30 in the evening, and slept for about twelve hours, and last night I did almost the same thing. Perhaps it is the thought of all the things I still have to do around here: I have to do a pile of laundry, I have a sink full of dirty dishes I have to move into the dishwasher (oh, the humanity!), I still have two cheap bookcases to put together (they’ve been sitting on my floor in their boxes for almost as long as I’ve been in the apartment), and I have to then put away the rest of the books. Then I have to drag all my trash out to the dumpster, and vacuum the rug, make some sort of effort to clean up the non-carpeted parts of the apartment (the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom, and the older cat again peed outside of the box — fortunately I had put paper down), and sweep up the patio (Fay scattered mulch everywhere!). Feel sorry for me yet?

Yeah, I know, such a hard life… anyway, I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to my emergency fund. I’m almost out of the woods, and anticipate being able to hand that rent check over to the landlord in good time. You are the greatest. And just to show my appreciation, my next post will appear today instead of next week, and I promise it won’t be about me or my cats.

Comcast is back up & running after 3 nights of NO tv, NO internet, NO house phone. Glad I had a cell, got along ok with just radio (the guys calling the Jaguars game do a pretty decent job). Lost power for 4 hours on Thursday, so cooking, cleaning, & life in general went on as usual. The cats weren’t happy…& now they have a new yard-mate – a young raccoon has taken up residence in the little oak tree. There’s also a hawk that seems to like living in the back yard. Fun!

I like hearing about your cats, Andrea.

Fortunately I never lost power, but being without cable for one whole night was brutal! O the pain…

You’re not going back to WhoBlogging again? I mean, yeah, it’s your blog and you can do what you want, but how about a more in depth review of Buckaroo Banzai? Peter Weller’s career arc, from hard rocking neurosurgeon and physicist to Syracuse U doctoral candidate? The Robocop years? Yuppy vs rat? The Burroughs Interlude? Starring opposite Leslie Ann Warren on Fairy Tale Theater?

More Shakespeare’s always good, too. We haven’t yet touched upon one of the all time greatest screen renditions: the Gilligan’s Island Hamlet musical.

Incidentally, now that I have brung up the subject of litter-a-chur, discarding Shakespeare and Homer, what single source has provided the most fodder for TV and film adaptations? My nominee is The Most Dangerous Game, which was once my all time favorite short story in the world, and still ranks right up there with Clark’s Superiority, Laumer’s Aide Memoire, and Poe’s Cask of Amontillado.

Anyway, name some stories that have inspired more TV episodes and movies than Dangerous Game. Bonus points for obscurity.

Well I dunno, Doctor Who is off the air for the time being (though there’s always the classic series etc.), but I have been somewhat diverted by the new crappy series on BBCAmerica, “Primeval.” The problem is, it’s pretty painful. At least Doctor Who has had lead actors who could act.
