Because I am seeing this all over the place: the usage of “taught,” which is the past tense of the verb “to teach,” when the writer meant to use the adjective “taut.” For God’s sakes, don’t make me come over there and hit you with a dictionary. They are two totally different words despite being pronounced the same. I’m not even going to bother putting links to definitions — look it up yourselves.

Uh-oh. Bet you saw it the same place I did, at Ace.
As long as we are complaining (well, you are, and i see no reason that you should hog all the ire), another one that cheese me off is “gambit” for “gamut.”
Words have meanings, people! That’s why we have different words for things!

Don’t you know that proper spelling is an anachronistic Dead-White-Male / Euro-Imperial concept utilised to oppress peoples of colour? And anyway you know what they mean, so why are you disrespecting their efforts?

My very favorite teachers in school were Grammar Bitches. Starting with first grade & right on up to “Intro to Business” in college. Not many of us left, Andrea – do you think it’s a condition common to RWDB?

I find it hard to love someone with “baited” breath.
Grammar Bitches have been rare in Oz schools since the 1970s. There have been some efforts made in recent years to re-introduce grammar and spelling to the profession, but the last generation of teachers to learn those skills are now dead or too old.

The one I see all too frequently is the use of lead, when the writer means led.

What about the apparent total inability of whole populations now to distinguish between flaunt and flout? Grrrr.

Tell me about it. That sound you hear is me sobbing inconsolably.
