Okay, I got turned down for the one-bedroom on special, but I was able to find a studio apartment in my same town, but on the other side of I-4 (so I won’t have to cross that stupid traffic every morning and evening on the way to and from work — anyone who lives in the Orlando area will know what I mean by the intersection of 436 and I-4), and I’ll be paying almost $200 less per month for rent. It’s also big enough to fit my bed without looking ridiculous, and it has a screened-in porch, which will be a boon for both me and the cats.
Okay, now to get busy making money. My credit being lousy I still have to come up with an extra month’s rent along with the deposit and first month, but they’re holding back on the pet fee as long as I get that in in May. I can’t wait to move.

This is all great news, Andrea…all that frustrated-sounding plugging along is really paying off right now! And I’m SO happy you’ll be keeping that bed!
Sometimes I miss the moving that went along with being a Navy Wife. It’s just now really setting in, as I went back & forth from this home to My Chief’s last duty station for 3 years. He’s been home steady now for 18 months & we have done SO MUCH with our little place here — even after putting a lot of things off cuz the kids lived here for almost a year. Every now & then I think “I’d like to have an empty shell to work with again” but then I talk to Duffy & we plan a new little project & the feeling of wanting to move passes. Later in the summer we’ll be painting the kitchen cabinets white & that’s the biggest change since he built me a sideboard at Christmas. Anyway, if you want any decorating advice, AFTER you’ve checked all the home decor magazines & websites, gimme a holler, I’ve almost always got an opinion!

The living in different places is fine — it’s the moving part I hate. I’ve always got to fight the urge to just chuck it all in the dumpster…

Done a version of chuck it all…early in the career, when I didn’t know the Navy would do the move for us…& discovered I’d chucked stuff I could really use & couldn’t afford to replace. I was a bit more careful after that. And as far as I was concerned, it was the best benefit the military offered. In fact, I told Duff not too long ago when I was bitching about living in a city, that I wouldn’t move again just because we’d have to do it all ourselves & I ain’t doing that again (it’s how we moved every year when I was a kid). What better reason for me to stay right where I am. Logistically, it’s the perfect place for me…even though I hate cities.
How big is the studio? My mum recently moved to a 2br/2ba in Big Timber, MT that’s bigger than my house – SHE’s got 11sqft! Our house is just barely 1000. Which works well for 2, but 3 cats, 4 adults & a baby was pretty durn tight.

That should say 1100 sq ft. Even the cat has more than 11!

It’s 500 square feet. I don’t know if they count the screened-in patio in that measurement, but it looked big enough to me. It has a nice big walk-in closet too.

I lived in an apt about that size many years ago, it worked fine EXCEPT there was only a tiny little closet – they make such a difference. In fact, I’ve lived in a couple smaller. The last one was a room & tiny kitchen but shared the bathroom – it was a rooming house in Memphis. That one didn’t have a closet at all. I’m looking at my house & picturing half of it. Sounds “just right” for what you need it for. What’s the kitchen setup like?

Nice. Full size fridge and stove, plenty of cupboard space, a pantry, and even a dishwasher (at least in the model I saw — actually I don’t need a dishwasher but there’s no denying they’re convenient). There’s also a pass-through with a breakfast bar. There’s less counter space than in my current kitchen, but I can cope.

I’ve come to really like my little kitchen. I don’t need a lot of counterspace cuz I don’t enjoy the “help” in the kitchen so many seem to find necessary. Perfect excuse for me to say “this space ain’t big enough for both of us.” My kitchen is too small for that, & even when I lived in places with bigger ones, the habit stuck. Dishwasher makes a very nice hidden drying rack — I have one, but it’s not essential.
