I always thought the metric system was for people too dumb to divide by 12.
Or too dumb, neurotic, or control-freaky to just relax and switch between two simple, intuitive, and easily-mastered measuring systems, using whichever one was better suited to the task at hand. Is learning to think decimally and duodecimally some kind of freakin' rocket-science? Or binarily, or hexadecimally, or sexagesimally, for that matter. Do these people have problems with calendars, wrist-watches, and basic computer classes? I've yet to meet a scientist or engineer who is traumatized by cookbooks or fabric stores.
