Reading is the new black

Huh. So why aren't I among the rich, huh, huh? I don't even own a tv! Then again, I get the feeling that I did it all backwards, as usual -- you're supposed to get rich and then spend all your money on books. Oops.

My current problem: lack of shelves. Most of my books are still in boxes. Woe is me. Hey, I'm still short of cash, so if you feel sorry for me and my books feel free to contribute over there, on the right... ;D I'm thinking hanging shelves this time, as the floors in my new place sort of slant this way and that.

I don't think reading is the new black as much as decorating with books is the new designer fashion statement for homes.

Getting rid of the TV was the best decision I ever made. Though I am out-of-touch with popular culture. It is amazing how much time people waste talking about TV programs (that when you haven't seen them, sound stupid.)

I don't know if reading is the new black as much as decorating with books is the new home-decor-fashion-statement. Building a library in your McMansion to impress your friends and underlings.

It could also be that TV has gotten to be so stupid lately. (Maybe it always was!) Not having a TV is the best decision I ever made - given how much time I wasted on it in the past.

My favorite (as in -un) decorating "tip" is to turn your books around so people see the edges of the pages, which are all supposed to be the same color (though where does this leave books with colored page edges and gold and silver-leafed ones, they do exist), instead of those clashing book spine colors. WTF? I like to see the titles of my books when I look at my shelves. I'm crazy that way.
