When I was little, "no" and "don't" were the main words my mother said to me. There was no "choice" either. The only choice was, "or you get your butt spanked", but that was pretty much understood so there was no need to say it.
I know it doesn't stop with the pre-K teachers. Many parents these days don't want to say simply "no" or "don't" because that would mean actually acting like a parent.

All I know is I'm real jealous of these kids. I got told "no" a lot too. Nobody ever gave me a video game! So we didn't have video games in 1967. That's no excuse!
