Below is just more of my maunderings about my apartment-hunting preoccupations. A post about an issue outside of my own selfish concerns (though of course, connected; it's all about me, don't you know?) is in the previous post. But if you want to continue to enjoy the slow-motion car crash that is my life, read on:
Good God, I've done six loads of laundry and I'm still not done. I've spent twenty dollars so far -- the only reason I stopped is because I ran out of quarters and didn't feel like walking all the way to the grocery store for more.
About my apartment research yesterday; I found an apartment that is not within walking distance (though I could walk it in an emergency), but it is one bus ride away. And even though it is more expensive, and they don't pay water (there is a nominal monthly charge, which is common in Altamonte Springs where this apartment is -- I'd forgotten that, not having lived in Altamonte in some years), I am seriously thinking of this place because they provide washing machines in the individual apartments. That's something I really miss, and was willing to forego to get a convenient place -- the last time I moved I gave away my washer and dryer set, and I've regretted it ever since. This place I'm living at has a laundry room, but it isn't free, and lately the dryers have had the habit of going on the fritz, which means lost money. I have added it up, and already I have spent more than the water payment would cost at the new apartment. On the other hand, rent is $100 bucks more than I'm paying now and then some, though it falls within my current income range (at the high end). But they have some other amenities I like, such as private balconies, the landscaping is full of trees -- like being in a wood; I didn't realize how much I missed trees -- and there is more counter space in the kitchen, which is on the open plan not the closed-in coffin-shaped plan like the one I have now -- I haven't seen an apartment yet, there was one that was being worked on but it was a two-bedroom and at this place I'd have to rent a one-bedroom... the manager said he'd have one available for viewing at the end of this week or next week. I think I'll go take a look.
I looked at another apartment further up the road, but except for nice grounds (more trees) and being right next to the expressway (and thus providing the soothing traffic noises I crave almost as much as trees -- no, I can't explain it either), and having screened-in balconies on the second story, it was nothing special -- no washer/dryers in the apartment.
I didn't fill out any applications, as I was still trying to decide, and I have to get money orders. I'll be working on that this week.
