Rococo

Whilst perusing the various blogs, I had a realization. You know that "Snap" thing that some people have on their blogs, that when you hover over a link opens a miniature picture of the website the link goes to? I don't like it. In fact, I hate it. I'm reading a blog, and my mouse cursor (which has a tendency to drift by itself, don't ask) skims over a link, and suddenly there's this block of crap covering the words I'm reading. It's no better than pop-up ads -- and more dishonest, at least pop-up ads are openly trying to sell you something. This Snap crap is pretending to render a service unto us needy readers, but you know what? If I wanted to see what the fucking webpage some link leads to looked like I would click on the fucking link. Get rid of this stupid thing on your websites, bloggers.

Hi, I just have to say...I love your blog and your sense of humor. I came here by way of Tam at View From the Porch.

I'll be back.

I've not seen this "Snap", but it does sound stupid. Probably some programmer's version of a "cute idea".

Bleah!

Agreed...I find the "snap" thing intensely annoying.

Agreed. It's totally useless eye-candy, in my opinion.

That snap preview "feature" seems to be activated by default now on WordPress.com blogs (those blogs hosted on the wordpress.com site, not the wordpress blogging system one can load onto one's own server). I had to go into the options on mine tonight to disable it.

I didn't know they had a name, but they need to Die In A Fire. Seriously.

It is a measure of what I think of this thing that I remembered, "Holy crap, and I did two WP 2.1 installs last weekend," and quickly tabbed out to said sites to make sure I wasn't doing it myself.

And the whole idea is silly, since you can't tell a damned thing from the thumbnail version that's Snapped to you, unless you're sufficiently superficial to think that the item linked might be more worthy if it seems to be dressed up nicely, a notion I would hate to have to defend.
