…And a good thing too, because I just filed my last week of unemployment. Which means I’m only going to get one week’s pay instead of two. Ulp. This assignment (it’s through a temp agency) is only for a week and a half (someone is sick), but hopefully I can parlay it into a longer assignment or a full term assignment. I’m off to get my drug test, and the job starts tomorrow. I don’t know when I’ll actually get paid (probably a week or two after the assignment ends, that’s how these things usually go) so I’m looking at a slim month financially. If you want to contribute a few dollars to my food and gas fund feel free…
I sure hope I can get a real job out of this. I’m beginning to feel like a ghost.

Well, I went ahead yesterday and told the management I wouldn’t be renewing my lease. (We have to give 60-day notices here.) This means I have two months to find a new place to live. They offered to transfer me to another apartment in this community for a lower price, but I didn’t want to lock myself in to another 12-month lease. I’m not even sure I’m going to stay in Florida, since I can’t seem to get anyone to hire me here.

Or, well, if you must… but if you see weird stuff on the site, it’s because I’m fooling around with the theme. It’s not your mind! Well, as far as I know it’s not.

…you actually own the dvd of something that happens to be on tv tonight, and you look at the clock and say to yourself: “Darn, I missed the beginning.”

Well, it doesn’t seem that bad. Every once in a while when I do something (like delete a link from the program menu) I’ll get that “allow” box and the desktop will go dim until I click on it, which takes a nanosecond. And this is the Premium issue so it has that fancy “Aero” effect, which is pretty but nothing to get hysterical about. Otherwise it seems to work more or less the same as XP. I had no trouble installing some of my favorite programs, and the box has enough memory installed to handle the load. So there.

I’ve forgotten half the passwords to all the websites I use/visit/comment on, and I can’t find any of the scattered bits of paper I scribbled them down on. I used to be careful about this sort of thing, 4,827 passwords ago.
Note: a lot of these passwords are on the old laptop. Which now just moans, groans, and whines, and the screen stays black, when I try to start it. It knows it’s been betrayed. They know, people.
New beast update: urgle — Windoze just uploaded something like 92 updates. I hope I don’t have to go through that again. I thought it had crashed.

Uninstalled: Napster (?), some Ebay thing (?!), and McAfee F’-ing Overpriced and Useless Antivirus.
Installed: Firefox (good-bye, Internet Exploder, which just imitates Firefox anyway with its “Ooh, look at us, we gots tabs!”) and AVG free antivirus software (I had it on the laptop — it’s probably useless, but I used to have McAfee, a couple of years ago, and it was useless too; I figure that all the antivirus programs are really in cahoots with the bug-makers anyway, so why should I buy a subscription to get screwed?), and a Shockwave plugin for Firefox.

There was an earthquake in England recently. Apparently as it wasn’t scripted by Russell T. Davies as having been caused by Captain Jack having sex with aliens the BBC didn’t do a very good job of covering it.
(Via Tim Blair — the last link, that is.)
Update: Scarlet Johansen, Natalie Portman… hey, Brits, welcome to Your Tax Dollars Working For You!

I’m glad I never read his lousy, gossip-mongering website. Thanks for unnecessary “breaking” news that even the rotten, leftist-raddled BBC managed not to divulge. (You’ll have to read all of Kim’s post to understand why Drudge should be kicked in the teeth.)
(Yep — now that I have a computer that actually works, expect a lot more “feisty” posts like this. As soon as I remember how to type on a normal keyboard.)

After waiting almost the entire day for the cable guy to get here, he finally got here at about 5pm. There was a lot of rigmarole about changing modems, only to discover that the box outside has one of its doors missing and a wire was damaged. I can’t wait to move out of this complex.
Now I have to figure out how to use this computer. See ya.
